Two Box Detectors

Two box metal detectors are just like typical metal detectors. They are designed to broadcast magnetic fields to induce a response from the metallic targets so that they can be located. However, since two box detectors emit two separate magnetic fields that are often broadcast in opposite directions and at different frequencies, they are designed to search for metallic items that are deeper in the ground. Here is an overview of some of the two box detectors that are available in the market today, along with information on their specifications and functions.

2-B Mega Explorer

These two box detectors are designed to detect large deposits of metal deep within the soil. The two control boxes at both ends of the handle create not only a deeper search area, but a wider one as well. These two box detectors feature a power and sensitivity knob to allow users to scan and filter out materials that are not wanted. A two-box detector weighs only eight pounds. Its compact size makes it popular with users who want to cover more ground. One unit costs $430.

White's TM 808

White's Electronics also produces two box detectors and they have named their unit the TM 808. The two boxes are actually large radial antennae designed to sweep large areas. The different settings on the control panel allow users to customize their two box detectors to trigger only when they have found the desired targets. For example, users can set the Automatic Threshold knob on the control panel to Auto, so that they can pick up targets while walking. For homing in on potential targets, the Automatic Threshold knob can easily be switched to No-Auto. These two box detectors also come with a “cave mode” that notifies users of underground caves and formerly excavated sites that are possible locations of buried treasure and artifacts. The industrial-strength transmitter is designed to seek out large metal deposits such as septic tanks, underground piping, tools, and occasionally, a treasure chest or two. White's TM 808 is worth $650.

Fisher Gemini III

These two box metal detectors are designed to seek out all kinds of metals. The crystal-controlled 82 kHz receiver and transmitter of the Fisher Gemini III can detect metal deposits up to 20 feet deep. Each unit features four different modes of operation, built-in recharger circuitry, and an optional ground rod for long distance underground tracing. This two box detector costs $600 and comes with a lifetime warranty.

Discovery TF 900 Automatic

These kinds of two box detectors are affectionately referred to as “Treasure Finders.” They are easily used with a thumb-button in the handle. They feature sensitivity control and two different frequency operating modes. They also come with a one-year warranty. The most distinctive feature of these two box detectors is their Ground Reject Circuitry. It allows users to locate large caches and metal deposits even in the most mineralized soil conditions. This two box detector costs $600.
